22/04/2009 - Trakkaway 830 Takes Motorhome Luxury & Space To A New Level

Using the new Fiat Ducato Al-Ko chassis with its tandem rear axles, Trakka have taken motor home space and luxury to a new level in a vehicle that is large on the inside and compact - given its remarkable range of features - on the outside, making easy and convenient to drive.
 
The Trakkaway 830 is so spacious that it has a separate bedroom with 'island' double bed, separate shower and bathroom cubicles, a gourmet kitchen and a spacious dining and seating area. Yet, on the outside, it is little larger than a normal motorhome. Added to this, the combination of Fiat's acclaimed 3.0 litre 115.5 kW Turbo Diesel engine matched to a gearbox uniquely designed with specific programmes for motorhome use provides the economy and performance of a manual gearbox and the convenience of an automatic, and ensures that the Fiat Ducato-based Trakkaway 830 could not be easier to drive under all conditions.
 
The Sydney-based motorhome company chose the Fiat Ducato for its newest model because only the Ducato could offer a chassis that made all of Trakka's advances in design and technology possible. The Al-Ko chassis, with its twin or tandem rear axles is substantially lower than a normal single rear axle set-up, which, combined with compact suspension, maximizes the amount of space available for the motorhome and allows higher weight payloads. Additionally, by reducing the centre of gravity, stability is enhanced, providing even better handling and roadholding, lifting both safety and comfort levels. With entire drivetrain ahead of the front seats, further increases design flexibility.
 
Above the Al-Ko galvanized chassis, the Trakkaway 830 body is built using fibreglass Styrofoam composite panels, thus giving much better strength, insulation and water resistance than polystyrene foam beading and plywood sheeting. Above the walls, the roof is a one piece fibreglass unit - not rubber - and has a relatively low height of three metres, something made possible by the low level Al-Ko chassis.
 
Not to be forgotten are the external features, like double glazed hopper windows, large rear storage area, roll-out awning, twin wall lights, motorized skylights, reversing camera and the all important slide-out barbeque. The many double glazed windows ensure everyone in the Trakkaway 830 can catch all the views and the driver has excellent vision.
 
Inside the Trakkaway 830, is a layout built on experience. Like the external structure, the internal cabinetry work is master crafted for both light weight and strength using plywood construction with high pressure laminate. Floor mounted air conditioning delivers the cooling air and there is also diesel heating for winter nights.
 
Four separate areas make up the internal living space. Up front the lounge/dining area has plenty of room to relax in comfort. The modern kitchen naturally comes with the highest quality appliances to satisfy the travelling cordon bleu chef. The ensuite and bedroom can be partitioned from the living area and offers a separate shower and separate toilet cubicle with a comfortable island bed that has enormous storage under and twin wardrobes beside the bed.
 
Naturally a full 240/12V power system is built in that is backed up by 200 amp hours of deep cycle house batteries, a 15 amp battery charger, 125W solar panel and a electronic control system. Energy efficient and dimmer controlled lighting is a feature, as is a great sound system and two high definition DVD players with LCD screens.
